General Rules and Information

DEADLINE

JUDGING 

All entries will be judged prior to the start of National Conference on June 7 th , by members of the COCA Awards Committee. No member of a competing COCA school will be allowed to sit on the judging committee. This committee is tasked to select three finalists from each category, whose contributions will be acknowledged during the Student Life Summit in Waterloo.

AWARDS PER CATEGORY

There will be a first place winner for each category and the remaining finalists will receive honorable mentions.

AWARD CATEGORIES

Club Leadership Awards of Excellence have a total of 3 categories and the descriptions are below. Maximum 1 entry per category per school.

1. Cultural 
This Award of Excellence recognizes a student club that has demonstrated exceptional leadership in initiating, promoting, encouraging, and aiding in cultural support and awareness for its membership and the student body at large.  

2. Social
This Award of Excellence recognizes a student club that has significantly contributed to the on-campus social community, and that serves to increase social participation and cohesion, elevating the student experience on campus. 

3. Advocacy
This Award of Excellence recognizes a student club that has demonstrated exceptional leadership in advocacy efforts and increased awareness of a respective issue on campus and/or in the community at large. 

CRITERIA TO CONSIDER:

The judges may use the following criteria to assess each entry:

Engagement: How is there engagement with their membership? Do many students attend their events? View their posts?
Innovation: How have they elevated this club from previous years? New initiatives?
Events/Programming: How active are they throughout the year? Have they executed many success events and/or programming initiatives that positively impacted student life?
Membership: How many members do they have? Are they relatively active? How many executives do they have? Is it entirely student run?
Contributions to Campus Life: What impact have they had on their campus?

DISQUALIFICATIONS

Failure to comply with the rules will result in disqualification from the category for which it was submitted. Please refer to the individual category descriptions and rules for detailed explanations of requirements.

ELIGIBILITY

All entries must be based on a student clubs contributions to their campus between the dates of August 20, 2019 to February 29, 2020.  Competition is open to all COCA School Members in good standing as of October 30, 2019.

ENTRIES

Each COCA School member is allowed one entry per category. All subsequent submissions will be discarded.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Please send in a completed document that includes the following:

  • Category
  • Name of student club
  • COCA school
  • Description of clubs achievements that are relevant to category of application
  • Description of why you club deserves to win
  • Social media handles (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Website, etc.)
  • Contact information (if we need to follow-up)

AWARD DISTRIBUTION

Awards will be announced at the COCA Awards Banquet on June 11, 2020, the last evening of the Student Life Summit. Awards will then be mailed within 14 days to the appropriate member schools to distribute to their students and /or staff. Winners will be posted within 21 days of the completion of the conference on the COCA Website.
