If you’ve been humming and hawing about whether you should join COCA (the Canadian Organization of Campus Activities) or not, look no further. In this blog post we’ll delve into a few reasons that are sure to make you think ‘why wasn’t I a member before?’
If you’re browsing this website and reading our blog for the first time, here’s a little backstory.
COCA is an organization that works to enhances students’ post-secondary experiences, and student associations, across the country.
Here are five reasons why you should join.
Meet and Connect with Other Student Associations
Being a COCA member provides you with an excellent opportunity to meet and connect with other student associations – near and far. This is a great way to learn about what has been working for other associations (whether it be a well-received event, a new service, etc.), and to share ideas. However, connecting with others is also a great way to discuss items that haven’t been working for student associations and how to tackle these barriers.
Stay Up-to-Date on all the Latest Relevant Trends
Let’s face it, especially in the digital world, it can be hard to keep up on all trends relevant to a student association, college department, or individuals/companies that serve the Canadian campus activities industry.
If you want a one-stop-shop to stay up-to-date on all the latest relevant trends, COCA is the organization to be part of. Through our website and blogs, social media channels, and (virtual) events, we’re constantly sharing tips and tricks (check out our previous blog post as an example).
Learn Something New
Along with staying up-to-date on trends, being part of COCA is an excellent way to learn something new. What’s the difference you ask? Well, you may be a wiz at Instagram, but you may have missed learning about the latest hashtag, however, you can always expand on your skills or learn something new – like how block booking can be beneficial.
Hone Your Leadership Skills
The leadership opportunities provided will help you become more engaged in the campus activities industry. And by honing your leadership skills (such as positivity, communication skills, and trustworthiness) you will in turn build a stronger association.
The Annual Student Life Summit (COCA Conference)
The Student Life Summit occurs every year in June and brings different campuses and delegates from across Canada together. Over several days, all of the above benefits will be brought together during one conference. More than 30 education sessions take place on topics revolving around Event Programming, Marketing, Clubs, Professional Development, and more.
The summit also includes a showcase where you can discover new acts to hire for your Association/school events.
These are just some of the MANY benefits of being part of COCA. To discover more benefits, join the Canadian Organization of Campus Activities today!
